Catfish and the Bottlemen Live at Théàtre Corona 5/5/17

By: Sun Noor

Catfish and the Bottlemen finally returned to Montreal to play the second show of their North American Spring tour on Wednesday Night. It has been nearly two years since the band’s debut here at Osheaga. Given that I often find myself travelling for their gigs, it felt quite refreshing to have them play a show in my hometown, since I’ve been waiting for ages for this to happen.

The first time I saw Catfish was in a tiny bar with a capacity that only held 100 people somewhere in Toronto alongside a few of my friends. Overtime I witnessed them play some of the biggest festivals including Glastonbury back in 2015 and Austin City Limits  within the same year. Seeing them evolve over the years has truly been blissful, as the band has been relentlessly touring since the beginning of their careers. It’s nice to finally see a hard-working band get the recognition they deserve, especially among such a wide audience.

Even though I have seen them eight times now, their gigs still get me super pumped and leave me wanting to see them multiple times in a row again. The set list for the show consisted of the perfect mix of songs from both albums although it could have been tweaked a bit with the addition of “Heathrow” followed by “Rango” since that transition is fucking legendary! The lighting set up also complimented their performance quite well, it left me blinded during some songs but well worth it.

The band played a generous, fourteen-song set consisting of:

  1. Homesick
  2. Kathleen
  3. Soundcheck
  4. Pacifier
  5. Anything
  6. Business
  7. Oxygen
  8. Twice
  9. Fallout
  10. Outside
  11. Hourglass
  12. 7
  13. Cocoon
  14. Tyrants

Catfish and the Bottlemen are scheduled to complete the last seven dates of their tour alongside the Canadian rock band, July Talk within this month before heading back to Europe.  A Japanese date followed by few Australian dates are also included into their Summer tour which will culminate right before their North American tour supporting Green Day.

Here’s a clip of the band performing “Tyrants” to culminate their alluring set!
