The “Duo Tour” stopped by Montreal
While Perfume Genius’ previous tour in support of his critically acclaimed recent album, Glory, skipped over Montreal last year, Mike Hadreas alongside longtime collaborator Alan Wyffels treated the audience to a unique live show experience. By ditching the full band, the intimate nature of “Duo Tour” offers a moment of tranquility, by toning down the theatrics and allowing for audience to fully immerse themselves into the performance, allowing for the lyrics to really pierce through.
Hadreas and Wyffels crafted a stunning live show, transforming selected cuts from Perfume Genius’ expansive discography along with newer material to fit a minimalist soundscape. They also dusted off a handful of deep cuts such as “Die 4 You” and
“Hood.”
Hadreas didn’t shy away from interacting with the crowd with the occasional anecdote or humorous comment. The venue’s fire alarm went off halfway through the pair’s performance of “Jason,” forcing them to pause the show for a moment, only to finish the final verse once the audience returned to their seats. In true Perfume Genius fashion, Hadreas delivered his moving rendition of This Mortal Coil’s 1984 track, “Kangaroo” before concluding the show with a solo version of his recent cut, “Me & Angel.”
Perfume Genius’ “Duo Tour” is set to culminate in Homer, New York on April 9th.
