Following the release of their self-titled debut EP back in 2019, the Montreal-based rock trio are back and set to release their full length record Forever is Now on March 21s.
Les Shirley was back in 2018 when vocalist and guitarist Raphaëlle Chouinard, bassist Sarah Dion and drummer Lisandre Bourdages decided to join forces. The term “Shirley” according to the group can be defined as a ride or die or a way of life.
The “Les Shirley,” EP allowed for the three piece to make a their mark in the Montreal music scene and tour around Quebec, sharing stages with bands such as The Beaches, Anti-Queens, and Ten Foot Poles. In terms of influence, the band points out elements of 2000’s pop culture, a vast array of musicians such as Blink-182 and Céline Dion as well as punk rock music from their adolescents. Upon first listen, their sound is characterized by heavy, ragging guitar riffs and punk vocal melodies.
In terms of the context behind their latest single, the band mentions, “This song is the most emblematic of the 2000’s punk rock era on the album. It’s about love at first sight, this instant connection with someone else, the feeling that everything is as it should be at the right timing. Making the painful realization that you’re falling and losing control but choosing to let go. F*ck it, I’m in love. ” Evidently, “Fuck it I’m in Love,” makes for a great hint at what is to expect from their upcoming record.
Les Shirley’s debut album Forever is Now will be out on March 19, 2021.
