As peak season for concert dies down and the luxury of attending a handful of shows each week in Montreal comes to an end, the 14th edition of M For Montreal presents itself as a final run both for fans of music and professionals. The annual music rendez vous is definitely the place to be this week as it offers a wide range of workshops, panels and other events relevant to music on top of plenty of exciting shows from over 100 local and international artists until Saturday. What I consider to be most admirable about the event is their ability to expand their lineup each year. Aside from the exceptional selection of local talent this year, many of the international artists will also be making their Canadian debut with various International showcases. Here’s a list consisting of the shows at M that I’ll be looking forward to throughout the week.
- Ada Lea at Turbo Haus on 21/11
The Montreal-based songstress will be back from her extensive touring cycle to play some tunes off her debut What We Say in Private which was released earlier this summer via Saddle Creek. Fans of alternative/indie music and poetic singer-songwriter lyrics will not want to miss this gig!
2. Bodywash at Cafe Cleopatra on 21/11
This local indie and synth-pop outfit caught my eye at their last showcase for POP Montreal back in September with their catchy tunes and captivating stage presence. They will definitely bring their fun vibes to a local strip club tomorrow alongside a handful of Canadian artists covering a wide range of genres, meaning there’s something for everyone!
3. Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard at La Sotterenea on 22/11 and at L’Escogriffe on 23/11
This Cardiff-based noise rock quartet is making their Canadian Debut with two back to back showcasing slots as part of the Stage Takeover gigs with plenty of emerging talent with high engery sets.
4. Corridor at Le National on 22/11
Montreal’s idosyncratic psych rockers are celebrating the release of their exceptional record, Junior with a special album release show on Friday which will definitely be one for the books!
5. Just Mustard at Casa Del Popolo on 22/11
This shoegaze and noise rock quintet hailing from Dundalk are bringing their exciting unique fusion of sound to Casa while on their first North American tour before heading back overseas. Festival goers are also in luck as this gig marks their first Canadian performance which should not be missed!
