Meg Remy’s upcoming record arrives June 20th via 4AD and Royal Mountain Records.
Today, U.S. Girls return with the announcement of their upcoming album, Scratch It, which is set for release this summer. As a first preview, Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist Meg Remy has shared “Bookends,” a sprawling 12-minute ballad that serves as the project’s focal point. Co-written with Edwin de Goeji, the single pays homage to Remy’s late friend and former Power Trip frontman, Riley Gale, and refers to John Carey’s 1987 book, Eyewitness to History, which documents historical events across twenty-four centuries.
Scratch It took form in just ten days after Remy formed a Nashville-based band for a festival appearance. Guitarist Dillon Watson, bassist Jack Lawrence, Domo Donoho on drums, keyboardists Jo Schornikow and Tina Norwood and harmonica player Charlie McCoy helped shape the project. The record consists of a unique blend of gospel, country, folk, disco garage rock, and soul. The analogue production also offers a unique quality to the project.
The release of “Bookends” comes with a stunning, Art Deco-inspired short film. “The video is ultimately about death and absolution — how death is one of the only certain things in life; the ‘great equalizer,’ nolens volens,” says director Caity Arthur about their vision.
