Debby Friday’s sophomore album is set to arrive on August 1st via Sub Pop and Royal Mountain Records.
Following the release of her 2023 Polaris Prize-winning debut, GOOD LUCK, Debby Friday has returned with the announcement of The Starrr Of The Queen Of Life, a dynamic new record. The ever-evolving Nigerian-Canadian artist has shared the single, “All I Wanna Do Is Party,” as the second preview. The high-octane, rave banger follows her previous offering, 1/17, a hedonistic embrace.
The Starrr Of The Queen Of Life was mainly inspired by the heavenly bodies and their relation to birth placements as a way of connecting to her inner-self and creativity. The record follows the multi-faceted artist as she defines success on hew own terms. “I want to be a starrr, I can’t hide that desire,” she mentions. “But what I don’t want is to live someone else’s dream or to follow a pre-set path.”
Debby Friday has also unveiled a visualizer for the single, co-directed by her frequent collaborator Kevan Funk. She describes the video to showcase “the transformations that happen when you devote yourself to a process over time. “
