The latest cut from her upcoming album, Only Dust Remains, due out March 28th.

Zambian-Canadian rapper Backxwash has returned with “9th Heaven,” the latest offering from her forthcoming album, Only Dust Remains. The gripping, introspective track marks her first release since the announcement of the new record and follows 2024’s excellent, “Wake Up.” The rapper attempts to assign meaning to purpose, offering a raw, powerful track without holding anything back. She relays, “Life is only fragile as your battles, so you can ask Adam, why he chose the apple, for real,” in the first verse, looking upwards, searching for salvation. Backxwash’s intricate lyricism paired and experimental production builds up, culminating with catharsis.

Only Dust Remains ushers in a new era for Backxwash with her new sonic direction. The ever-evolving artist tones down the noise on this new single, opting for a melancholic yet punching soundscape. The inclusion of keys, and drum and bass-influenced percussion makes for a nice contrast. The new record is rooted in artistic evolution and highlights her powerful artistry.
