The singer-songwriter and multidisciplinary artist returns with the visual accompaniment of her new track.
Following the release of her latest single, “Yearning Female,” Teagan Johnston has shared an artful yet nostalgic video clip for the empowering track. Through raw and poetic lyrics, the Toronto-based singer-songwriter is determined to reclaim the narrative while rejecting harmful ideals.
“I read a story about a young grey wolf who was tortured and killed at a bar in Wyoming. Every article described the wolf as a ”Yearling Female” and I couldn’t help but think about how stories of abuse are so often perpetrated against “young women” or a “yearling female” in animal terms,” Says Johnston. She adds, “I thought about how much growing up with the cultural narrative that bad things happen to young women has affected me and led me to view myself always as prey instead of predator.”
The visualizer was choreographed and directed by Johnston and filmed by Dzesika Devic.
