The rapper’s first performance in the city following a five-year absence was nothing short of stellar.

Danny Brown recently mapped a short run of Canadian tour dates following his previous North American run, in support of his latest LP, Quaranta. This time around hitting up a few cities up north, Montreal being the first date. The rapper was welcomed back to the city with an eager crowd that truly matched the energy of his lively set at the SAT.

Over a minimalistic, shimmering backdrop, Brown wasted no time in diving right into it, starting off with the first two songs from his most recent album. The energy in the room shifted as soon as the rapper hit the stage, as the room filled with excitement. He selected a handful of tracks from discography, dedicating a portion of his show for each album. Fans we’re treated to a well-curated set highlighting fan-favourite projects including 2016’s Atrocity Exhibition and Scaring the Hoes, his acclaimed collaborative effort with rapper/producer JPEGMAFIA.

Halfway through his set Brown announced that the deluxe edition of Quaranta would be available at midnight. In a way, the gig served as an “unofficial pre-release show” as fans celebrated the occasion. Either way, always a good time at a Danny Brown show.
