London’s buzzy contemporary jazz collective Kokoroko have announced a new EP titled “Get The Message.” As a preview, the band has offered up “Three Piece Suit,” fellow UK artist Azekel. “Get The Message” follows 2023’s Could We Be More Remixes, and invites listeners to dive further into their inner world. The EP revolves heavily around themes of community and relationships while presenting an eclectic soundscape consisting of afrobeats, jazz fusion, funk and neo soul.
“Three Piece Suit” captures the collectives kaleidoscopic sound with the stacked wind instruments and woozy synths. The track essentially serves as a tribute to the Nigerian immigrant experience.
Kokoroko percussionist Edgeworth Onome mentions:
“When we wrote the lyrics we were thinking of our grandfathers arriving in London and the way they carried themselves and dressed in the 1960s. They were part of a dapper and suited generation that sowed the seeds for the worlds we’re building now. It speaks to our sentimental memories of a time that we know we can’t have back.”
Kokoroko are set to embark on a North American tour next week, kicking things off in New York City before jetting off to the UK and EU for another leg. Check out the full list of dates here.
