In support of their debut album
Aussie hardcore band Speed released their excellent debut album, Only One Mode, via Flatspot records back in July. After supporting Knocked Loose on their Spring North American tour, the quintet returned to Montreal for their first-ever headlining show in the city. The band was joined by Baltimore’s Angel Du$t on this run, along with a slew up hardcore openers, including Bay Area act BIG BOY and local group Desecrate.
This show marked the final night of their outing and the sold-out crowd truly brought all of their energy. A group of crowd surfers quickly made their way towards the front of the stage moments before the band commenced their set, diving head-first into the crowd. The anticipation in the room was enough to get the crowd going. Speed kicked things off with a string of ONLY ONE MODE songs. The opening flute intro to “REAL LIFE LOVE” generated a moshpit which would slowly expand into a circle pit, once the band began to perform. Halfway through the show, An individual wearing a gas mask even jumped off the balcony, right into the crowd. The audience matched the group’s high-octane set, moshing throughout their set. Whether they were playing newly-released tracks or earlier cuts, here was truly never a dull moment. The band reserved their fan-favourite track, “THE FIRST TEST,” for the end of their set. Frontman Jem Siow whipped his flute back out for the tracks iconic outro, which was met with cheers. Speed undoubtedly closed out their tour with a bang!
Speed are set to kick off the European leg of their ongoing tour in Italy on October 18. Check out the full list of dates here.
